Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for class?

Click on either Youth classes or Adult classes and select the level, time and days that work best for you!

How do I know what level to sign up for?

Our levels are to differentiate between strengths and skill sets amongst our students.

Beginner Level 1: You have never taken an aerial class before and want to experience what it is all about! No strength or dance required to take this class. It is recommended to take this class several times until you are able to meet the pre-requisites to move up to Level 2.

Beginner Level 2: You have taken Level 1 multiple times and have checked off the pre-requisite skills in order to move up and learn new ones. Learning to have one climb is the goal for this level. Taking this class multiple times is recommended in order to meet the necessary requirements to move up to Level 3. Go to our pre-requisites or ask an instructor if you are able to move up.

Beginner Level 3: In this level you have a solid climb and are ready to learn things off the ground from a climb. We work heavily on technique now that you have more strength and we add newer and harder challenges. Make sure you meet the requirements to move to this level.

Ensemble is a commitment group that trains more frequently in order to put on shows and events. Ensemble may or may not be available depending on the season.

Ask your teacher if you are ready to move up a Level before signing up!

What time should I arrive to class?

Please arrive a few minutes early in case you need to change clothes, fill up your water bottle, or use the restroom before class. This way, we can ensure that we can avoid interrupting class and respect everyone’s time. If there isn’t a class before yours, we allow students to come into the studio to stretch on their own before we begin our class warm up.

What should I wear?

Leggings or other tight fitting pants, comfortable top that covers your armpits and is suitable for working out, and bare feet. Please do not wear jewelry, zippers, or any other adornments that can snag the silks.

Are there any age restrictions to participate?

We are currently only offering classes for students ages 8 and up.

How do I sign up for Ensemble?

Registration for Ensemble is now closed for the season.

GravityWorks Ensemble is a Three Term commitment in preparation for an Aerial Theater production!

Ensemble classes train twice a week, for eighteen weeks.

Payment is in three installments of $435 at the beginning of each six-week term.*

*Interest-free payment plans are available at check out.

I have no upper body strength, can I still take aerial class?

Yes! Our beginner classes are based on learning tricks with your body weight supported, either in the silks knot, or basic moves that won’t require too much lifting. You will gain aerial-specific strength as you progress.

Although exercise and training outside of the class will be beneficial to aid you in your progression, participating in aerial training will get you strong for aerial. Being able to do a pull up or lift heavy weights will not replicate the grip strength that we will be using, but it can help!

Do I need to have previous experience?

No. No previous experience is needed for beginner classes. Having aerial or dance experience gives you body awareness that helps you learn aerial faster, but it is not necessary. You will gain body awareness once you take aerial classes and learn to dance through the air.

What is your cancellation policy?

All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Once payment has been made for the session we cannot refund you halfway through if your circumstances change. Classes rely on meeting numbers to run, once you sign up you are committed to that session or workshop. If you have not paid in full before the session commences you will not be permitted to participate in class until you have completed the payment.

How long does it take to learn aerial?

Everyone learns differently and on their own time!

As a teacher, it is our job to accommodate how each individual student learns best and not everyone is the same.

The wonderful thing about circus arts is that everyone can do it! Although aerial is very physical, it is not competitive. Practice and repetition gets you to where you want to go. In the circus community we learn to be patient and lift each other up!
